ROS OpenEmbedded Community Group at ROSCon 2025

By

Join us for an interactive Birds of a Feather session focused on using the Yocto Project and OpenEmbedded to build ROS and ROS 2 for embedded and edge platforms. We’ll explore the meta-ros layer, share best practices for customizing Linux distributions, and discuss opportunities for collaboration between the ROS and Yocto communities. Whether you’re already deploying ROS with Yocto or just curious about what’s possible, this BoF is a great chance to connect, ask questions, and exchange ideas with fellow developers.

Check out the ROSCon 2025 schedule for a list of all the talks, workshops, and BoF sessions: https://roscon.ros.org/2025/

To get started with ROS on OpenEmbedded, check out last year’s talk from ROSCon 2024 ( https://roscon.ros.org/2024/talks/Accelerating_Robotics_Development_with_Embedded_Linux.pdf ) and download the meta-ros layer ( https://github.com/ros/meta-ros ) and

Yocto in the Real World: Lessons from Industrial, Consumer and Off-Highway Deployments

By

The Yocto Project offers flexibility and control — but in real-world products, that flexibility can quickly become complexity. In this session, Witekio shares practical lessons learned from dozens of commercial Yocto implementations across industries such as industrial control, home appliances, medical devices, and off-highway vehicles. We’ll discuss how product requirements shape Yocto choices, where common pitfalls arise, and how to structure Yocto projects for maintainability, security, and product longevity. Whether you’re starting your first Yocto-based product or scaling across multiple platforms, this session offers pragmatic guidance from real deployments.

This is an online webinar recap of our talk given at The Yocto Project Dev Day in Amsterdam.

Yocto Project Virtual Summit 2025.12

By

The Yocto Project Virtual Summit is a virtual technical conference for engineers, open source technologists, students and academia that build and use Yocto Project and OpenEmbedded. This 3-day event is where individuals will learn about Yocto Projects’ direction — including, but not limited to, new releases, development tools, features — get training on the next wave of embedded Linux technologies, and network with their industry peers, Yocto Project and OpenEmbedded maintainers and experts.

The Yocto Project Virtual Summit includes workshops for engineers building customized Linux distributions and applications, as well as an open forum where maintainers, trainers, and users present papers on how the project is evolving and how they are using it.

Registration for all attendees includes the Presentation Tracks on December 3 – 4 with the option to attend a complimentary Beginner Class or Hands-On session on December 2. Programming is from 12 – 18:00 UTC daily.
