Perhaps most definitively, If you are using a clone of the poky repository, in meta-yocto/conf/distro/poky.conf you should see DISTRO_VERSION set to the version. If you are using the default of DISTRO = "poky" you'll se this reported in the information printed at the start of every bitbake build execution.
