FYI the tar 1.27 fix has been backported to the 1.4 "dylan" branch, however 
Angstrom might not have picked it up yet. Still, you may experience other 
problems with Ubuntu 14.04 with 1.4, so if you can upgrade to a newer major 
release you probably should.
