Yocto Project has been voting on how to spend the budget for many years now.  To suggest otherwise is very stange.  

If Intel thinks we should do things in a different order that is fine.   Please make your case to the AB as I plan to.

I am taking over as Intel's representative from Tracey and as I work on getting to know everyone on the AB, I greatly appreciate the background you have provided on yourself below.  I'm personally very excited to join this AB at a point in time when YP is preparing for significant growth.  But, because of this I also think that it is pretty important to go about this in a systematic way as the current YP charter is very vague on many of the issues that are being discussed below.  I believe that doing so will lead to a much stronger organization longer term while minimizing the possibility of misunderstandings from the existing charter causing further confusion.  Therefore, as a means to moves things forward, I would like to propose the following:
 
*	Officially nominate Travis as interim chair for a period not to exceed 90 days
*	Send out an open call for AB chairship nominations with 2 weeks for AB members to submit nominations.  Travis will set up a call after this for the AB to vote on the nominees.  
*	Due to the state of the YP charter, we don't believe that it is allowable to have a vote on the funding and many of the other proposals listed below and that a better course of action is to ask the LF BoD for further clarity.

Travis,

I think it is great you have the experiences with LF project formation and governance.  Your voice and advice will be greatly appreciated when it comes time for the governance change.

I too have quite a bit of experience in this area.  I have been part of the formation of 5 Linaro Market segment groups and 3 Linaro foundation projects.  I am also part of the LF Real Time Collaborative Project and participated in its formation.  I also advise TI on its participation in the LF Zephyr project both through Linaro and directly.

However, what I think the AB needs at this time is someone that we all already know.

>From my own point of view, I would like to see the following order of business for the AB:
1) Appoint new AB Chair
2) Vote on 100K reallocation
3) Get the new members into the project and the AB
4) Re-do the governance with all voices heard

Thanks for the introduction and for communicating a path forward. I know from our past work together that I'm stepping into some very big shoes, a sentiment which has been echoed by much of the community email this past week.

As Jefro noted, we've discussed my stepping in temporarily to help with board meeting facilitation, which would include setting an agenda and timeline for electing a permanent AB chair. I've been reviewing the project's governance documents (those from the initial formation, as well as the membership documents) and have not found a clearly defined transition process. A Jefro noted, I have worked on a few recent launches with the Linux Foundation and the OpenStack Foundation, and I've observed quite a few governance updates since Yocto Project was first chartered in 2011. I'd propose that we work with the Linux Foundation to review the current status, and to use this opportunity to refresh the overall project charter and bylaws and ensure that we're following their current set of best practices with respect to financial and technical governance.

I look forward to talking with you all on Monday, and to working with you to continue the Yocto Project's success.

Hi folks - It is with mixed feelings that I am resigning my position on the YP Advisory Board as chair. I have helmed the chairship since our first meeting at ELC in 2011, and it is time for someone else to pick up the gavel. I am also handing off my community management activities as I am taking on a new role at Intel. One of my compatriots at Intel, Travis Broughton, has offered to step in as chair pro tem to manage board meetings and votes going forward. Some of you may know Travis already, as he has been involved with a number of recent LF project launches.

Community issues or questions that involve infrastructure should go to Michael Halstead. Event-related issues will be handled by Lieu Ta. Technical questions and concerns should go directly to the Yocto Project mailing list. And if you are able to dive in and help with community management, as so many of you have done over the years, please talk to Lieu to coordinate.

It has been a distinct pleasure working with each and every one of you. The Yocto Project has grown to represent a foundational standard in the embedded systems world and has helped to promote embedded Linux in an industry that is well known for being insular. It is a triumph for the developers and the organizations that support it - every representative on this board should be proud of the progress made and the support you have provided to this very popular and stable project. I very much look forward to seeing it vault into the next chapter.
