Hi AB folks - for a few years, YP was able to be a mentor for Outreachy, previously known as the FOSS Outreach Program for Women. This mentorship program pairs an experienced engineer with a female intern, with the clear goal to encourage women and other minorities to join open source projects to contribute and gain real-world experience. This project was originally run by the GNOME project, and is now organized by the Software Freedom Conservancy.

Beth Flanagan was a mentor three times for this project while she was working with YP. During those times, we had the benefit of a very qualified intern for very little cash, and the benefit of improving on the project's diversity. Given the dearth of women in open source in particular, I strongly believe in this program and its focus on inclusion and diversity, two of the basic principles of open source in general and Linux in particular.

Outreachy is starting another round of internships, and I would very much like for us to continue our support for this wonderful internship program. If you or any of your engineers are interested in becoming a mentor, please let me know and I will try to arrange the appropriate funding.

Thank you
