I agree with what Patrick wrote in his reply. Just one thing to add
to that timeout comment. My observation was the timeout happens
because ovmf puts the network boot target with higher priority than
the disks.

I never implemented the optimization but it's possible to avoid
that by booting qemu without networking support (-net 0).
