I saw the initiscript patch which dynamically rewrites asound.conf. It
seems to me there are a great deal of variables it can't really account
for. But independent of that, I don't think we want to use initscripts
that run at every boot to dynamically overwrite configuration files.

We should have a higher level design and planning discussion before we
start creating one-off solutions for each config file. I suspect if we
decide to have some kind of a runtime config, we'll want a run-once
mechanism, or possibly something that runs in the installer, not at every
boot.

Did you already have some broader scheme in mind as to how to address the
larger problem of supporting multiple platforms with a single image.
