The thread should do, but generally the approach that I took in
meta-kernel-dev (and roughly what Nitin's approach was as well), isn't
an example RP wants repeated. Something more generic that uses python
to remap a SRC_URI based on a local setting is suggested, with a
class that is inherited to implement the functionality.

The python approach is definitely more in line with oe-core/yocto and
uses the flexibility of the system, with the realization that there's
more code involved which may be less clear to a non oe veteran or
python coder :)
