I did test it on the crownbay, but all I can say is that it doesn't
cause a regression - both before and after still fail in the same way,
hanging at: 

sd 3:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk

A little further up, I see:

/init: line 22: udevd: command not found

which may be related to the problem...
