Quickest seems to just erase everything and do it again. I just tried
the init and sync on Linux Mint 9.2 (Ubuntu Bionic based) and it worked
fine.
If it fails again, maybe it is in the tools version. I used:
$ repo --version
... A new repo command ( 1.25) is available.
... You should upgrade soon:
cp /home/bas/Workspace/<...>/.repo/repo/repo /usr/bin/repo
repo version v1.13.5.1
(from https://gerrit.googlesource.com/git-repo)
