One important detail is that the issue the cea mode patch fixes does not 
occur if the machine is connected to a true HDMI device. It only happens 
with DVI ones, because the list of CEA modes is always empty with a DVI 
monitor. If resolution issues appear even with a true HDMI monitor, then 
it may not be the same problem.
