Rough guess, but the u-boot 2009.08 that I've seen on the iMX6 boards did not 
support FDT. Also IIRC kernel that came with these boards (3.0.35) did not use 
fdt either.

Perhaps try loading a newer uboot from meta-fsl-arm first, then load the 
kernel, fdt and boot with that.

Also if you build core-image-minimal, you should get a bootable SD card image 
(look for *.sdcard in $DEPLOY_DIR_IMAGE).
