[meta-freescale] Custom imx6 board newer kernel

Hello list,
We have developed a custom board based around the i.MX6D processor.
We have booted it with a modified sabresd build (hacked the sabresd board file).
(Had to disable cpu frequency scaling in order for it to work)

Attached to the board is a touchscreen with drivers requiring kernel > 3.5 for multitouch support.
I am currently looking into how to solve this issue.

How much work will it be to get our board up and running on newer kernel?
Will for instance the vivante GPU drivers work?
Has anyone got any experience with running a newer kernel on the SABRE SD board for instance?
