No; you'd get an error from Yocto asking you to install the need host
package and the set of packages need in host is minimal as we try to
keep control about as much as possible of build.

What worries me is it works fine here.

Are you using 'danny' branch of all your layers?

Please send the config.log file (gzipped) privately to me so I can
take a look on the configure code.
