It is nothing wrong with the patch but 'latest' here is something
problematic. What is latest today, may not to be tomorrow.

So when updating SRCREVs for GIT trees for development versions (which lack
tags) I've been using the date of commit as a snapshot indication so it
gives a good sense of time and allow for a sense of versioning when someone
reads the commitlog in future.

This is my personal preferrence, so your call.
