ant_homewell, what's happened to stat recipe? ERROR: Function failed: package_get_auto_pr21:02
cfo215Crofton|work, Who?  I'm using Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS for my development.21:02
Crofton|workhmmm, anyone here running an sdk built on Ubuntu on the same machine?21:03
Crofton|workcfo215, the headache is I can't dupe your issue21:04

cfo215Crofton, has what I've done to troubleshoot.21:05
cfo215Crofton|work, has what I've done to troubleshoot.21:05
kergothant_home: is that the exception / timeout issue? there's a yocto bugzilla bug for that, and a patch hit the list for it21:05
Crofton|workI am trying to simplify21:05
Crofton|workline 4 runs?21:06
ant_homekergoth, thx, disappeared on second run21:06
Crofton|workand did you try the "recommended" path21:07
kergothant_home: yeah, its a local network connectivity timeout talkin to the pr server, apparently we can exceed the timeout on loaded systems21:07
kergothi've hit it a few times today too21:07
ant_homeyep ERROR: Can NOT get PRAUTO, exception timed out21:07

cfo215Crofton|work, I know why it works... :(  '$ which make' results in /usr/bin/make21:08
Crofton|workarm-angstrom-linux-gnueabi-gcc -v21:09
Crofton|workdoes that work?21:09
cfo215no.  only with the hack in the pastebin.  I get "error while loading shared libraries: __vdso_time: invalid mode for dlopen(): Invalid argument" otherwise.21:10
Crofton|worknow, we need to find someone else with Ubuntu to try the same thing from an sdk from straight oe-core21:12
Crofton|workI suspect the problem is there also21:12
Crofton|workI jsut have no Ubuntu stuff around to try with21:12
feydrautha80hello guys where can i read something about sanity.conf ?21:12
cfo215i imagine so... the meta-qt-sdk or whatever it's called does the same.21:13
feydrautha80i get a complaint about my version of make ( i have 3.81 , 3.80 is needed )21:13
Crofton|workcfo215, the quick way to get some attention would be try an qemu of oe-core only on your machine and see if that toolchain works21:16
Crofton|workif it fails we can but a bug in the yp bug tracker21:16
Crofton|workmy suspicion is the problem is in there somehow21:17
Crofton|workI would do it, but I have no Ubuntu to try21:17
Crofton|workand am going afk for a few days :)21:17
cfo215Crofton|work, I'll try that.  I also discovered this when I miss typed 'ls' in the same shell I was trying to build main.c in.
Crofton|workbasically, I am hoping the bug can be fixed in oe-core :)21:19
cfo215Crofton|work, source envi...; MACHINE=qemuarm bitbake core-image... sorry still newb.21:19

RPCrofton|work: I do continue to worry about build times, yes22:05
cfo215RP, stupid question... anyone ever think of refactoring Bitbake to be an executable instead of a python script?22:07
kergothyou mean rewrite it in a compiled language?22:08
kergothit's been discussed from time to time22:08
cfo215I figured it had.22:08
RPIts been more than discussed, its been attempted.22:09
RPIt turns out most of the time is spent in the finalise() python code22:09
RPThe memory resident bitbake is an attempt to massively cut down on various latencies22:09
cfo215Or, we could all get Crays... ;-)22:10
fraythey're usually slower then a nice dual 8-core + HT box these days.. ;)22:10
RPSo whilst rewriting it might seem like a nice idea, it is unlikely to solve the problem. There are other ways to speed it up22:10
RPWe are slowly getting faster over time22:11
cfo215sure, more procs, solid state drives, etc.22:11
RPWe've cut a lot of the disk IO, we filter out the fsync calls and so on22:11
RPconfigure is now our single biggest problem22:11
Crofton|workcfo edit DL_DIR to point at the same sir, just do not run two builds at once22:11
kergothgod configure scripts are slow. try running them in qemu sometimes, its horrifying22:12
RPkergoth: its horrific watching it in strace :(22:12
RPIts the shear number of exec()s :(22:12
* kergoth nods22:12
cfo215Crofton|work, thanks.  I'll implement that.  Save me some time in the long run.22:12
RPnot helped by needing to use shell lanugage that is as portable as possible22:12
RPI've wondered if we should create our own autotools macro set22:13
RPi.e. massively slim them down22:13
